Daily 5 Video: Word Work Center & Activities

I made a video last week to show my Daily 5 Center and my Word Work Activities. I don't know about you, but I do much better when I can see things- I'm definitely a visual learner :)

Most of the resources are available in my TpT Store and in my Daily 5 Series Word Work post HERE.

The link to the Secret Code is HERE under Word Study and "Additional Ideas for Practicing Spelling Words".

I hope this helps you understand my Daily 5 Word Work Center more and let me know if you have any questions!

If you liked the poster with Word Word choices, you can download it for free HERE.

  1. So great! Thanks for the visual. I'd love to hear more about your listening/ipod "center" or "choices" - I can't believe I never thought about putting all that stuff on an ipod... I think I have 2 old ipods just sitting around the house. Do you record them yourself (something I'm now thinking I could do with garageband) or do you buy them? What titles do you have? Are they expensive? Thanks so much! I'm returning to my 2/3 classroom after a 2 year leave, so excited to try some new things!

    1. Hi Reiker,

I actually got the iPods through our PTO- they offer grants and I was able to get a few, along with some iTunes gift cards for the books.

I actually like the older iPods better, since they are bigger- these new ones are so small, I was always afraid the kids would step on them accidentally!!

You could DEFINITELY record books yourself, especially picture books. I also asked for iTunes gift cards from class parents for gifts and spent a long time making a list of titles I wanted to buy.

I ended up getting quite a few Shel Silverstein books, since he's so wonderful and the read alouds are amazing! I also purchased several Book #1 of series books- I was hoping to get kids hooked into series like this.

Good luck with your return to the classroom! I HIGHLY recommend Daily 5- the structure it provides is awesome :)

  4. I am a veteran teacher embarking on daily 5 with my 3rd grade class next year (I've been teaching SPED for 20 years!)Over the years I have accumulated MANY books on tape...to convert, I used garageband on my Mac and my old listening center tape player....they are connected and play the tape, garageband converts it to an MP3...I also burn a CD and have placed a little CD envelope inside the front cover of the book for my listen to reading area. Students will be able to choose an ipod (I have 2 right now) or individual CD players to listen! Super easy...I googled how to do it! :)

    1. Great ideas, Shari!

I love the idea of keeping the CD inside of the book- CD players are often found pretty cheap these days, and some parents may even have old ones to donate.

Thanks so much for sharing :)
