Tagged Thrice!

Holy cow, I have been tagged and have been pretty bad about responding to them in a timely fashion! Krista, Courtney and Michelle all tagged me this past week and I am just getting around to answering these now.

First up, Krista, from The Second Grade Superkids, tagged me with these questions:

1. What is your favorite color to paint your nails?
I bite my nails (HORRIBLE habit!), so I never paint my fingernails, but I love to paint my toenails either dark, dark red or bright red.

2. Do you have anything that you collect in your classroom to display (ie. I have an obsession with sock monkeys!)
Our school mascot is the dolphin (weird, since we are in the Rocky Mtns.), so I have acquired quite a few dolphin items over the past seven years (from students, I don’t really collect anything).

3. What is something you do every year for open house at your school (ours is coming up and I would love ideas!)?
I never did anything too fun, but thanks to Pinterest, I have a whole host of new ideas. I created a board for Beginning/End of Year activities to catch them all.

4. Do you have a share!?
I have a wonderful chocolate lab that my husband and I adopted from the Humane Society about 5 years ago. She is our first child and we love, love, love her. It’s been awesome to see her and our 11 month old together- too cute!

5. What time do you usually wake up and get to school on a typical school day?
My alarm goes off at 5:30 and I am usually up at 6. I try to get to school before 7:30 and thankfully I only live 5 minutes away. Kids come in at 8 and I am NOT a morning person, so I need all the lead time I can get ;)

6. What did you dress up as on the last Halloween that you dressed up?
I dress up every year because we have a big parade at our school. I brought my daughter this past year and she was a cupcake and I was a baker- hee hee!

7. What is something silly that you are afraid of? (I am afraid of fish...silly right? or so I am told!)
Kids wiggling their loose teeth- it makes me want to pass out or gag!

8. What is your favorite part of working at your school, besides the students in your classroom?
My teammates- I have the two best fellow 3rd grade teachers and they make me a better teacher and a more sane person :) I am also lucky to teach at a school with a few of my besties, so really, the adults make it as much fun as the kids!!

9. What tv show do you can you absolutely not miss each week?
This is embarrassing, but Hoarders, Storage Wars (the original), and Dance Moms…. I have problems.

10. What is the #1 thing you hope your students leave your classroom remembering at the end of the year?
How much fun they had, how much they laughed, how they became more responsible and independent, and how much their third grade teacher loved them :)

Next up, Courtney, at Teaching in Paradise, tagged me with these:

1. What is the one thing that you couldn't live without in your class?
Music- Pandora is my best friend

2. If you could teach any grade, what would it be and why?
Third- I love every single thing about it!

3. What is your absolute favorite food?
Macaroni and cheese

4. What does a typical morning breakfast look like for you?
Coffee, Greek yogurt, and an apple

5. Nicest thing that a parent has ever said to you?
It was the best year their child has ever had

6. Most touching moment with/from a student
I seem to have lots- any that make me laugh and tear up at the same time rank up there pretty high

7. Favorite website besides blogger and Pinterest?
I didn’t know there were other ones ;) I love Beth Newingham’s website- she has amazing ideas and was the first teacher “blog” I ever found and stalked

8. Best place you've ever traveled to and why?
Peru- completely amazing and my husband proposed to me at the end <3

9. What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
 Sleep in!

10. About how much time, on average, would you say that you spend doing things for school?
I really try to keep school at school and let home be just for my husband, myself, and Little Girl. That being said, I definitely pull late evenings in the classroom from time to time!

Last, Michelle from Apples & ABC’s tagged me with these:

1. If you could teach any other grade, what would it be?
 Third :)

2. What is your favorite beverage?
Coffee, definitely

3. What is your favorite store to shop for goodies for your classroom?
Hobby Lobby and Target

4. What inspired you to start blogging?
I loved learning from all of the other teachers and wanted to be a part of this great community. You all help make me a way better teacher!

5. What is your favorite unit/lesson that you have blogged (add link)?
Brain Breaks, it’s awesome and you should try some tomorrow!

6. Would you rather teach at a year-round school, or traditional school (what is that called??)?
I guess traditional since that’s what I am used to. Although it would be nice to travel during an off-peak time.

7. Are you reading The Hunger Games?
No, but I saw the movie and really want to. Maybe this summer?

8. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Right now, anyplace with an ocean, sunshine, and no responsibilities :)

9. What is your favorite jungle animal?
I love the teeny tiny frogs- their color is amazing (even if they are deadly!)

10. Who is your favorite children's author?
Wow, I have so so so so so many. I would say Peter H. Reynolds because the simplicity of his books coupled with his touching messages always make me happy!
Now, onto tagging other great bloggers!

More About Me & Passing It On...

I have several things to share with you and pass along to my fellow amazing bloggers out there!

First off, I was tagged by Christi at Ms. Fultz's Corner in a blogger interview and I've answered her questions below. It's occurred to me that you probably don't know much about me, which is weird for me to think about since I am a super-extrovert in real life, so maybe this will help me be more extroverted in blogging life :)

Here Are The Rules:
* Post these rules.
* Answer the 10 questions that the tagger posted for you.
* Create 10 questions of your own to ask the people that you're about to tag.

Here are Christi's 10 Questions:

1. What's your most loved classroom read aloud?
I adore Peter H. Reynolds books- I think the one I love reading the most is The Dot since it's all about a supportive teacher and reluctant kids who end up trying their best {love}
"Just make a mark and see where it takes you."
2. If you weren't teaching, what would you be doing instead?
Is Pinterest hiring for a professional pinner? Because I'm pretty sure I could do that :) I am a mom and I run my own little baby gifts company, lilybean baby goods, so  that would probably keep me busy enough. If I could have any job, I think a travel writer would be an incredible experience.
lilybean baby goods~ my other, other life {besides teacher, wife & mom}
3. What are you most looking forward to during summer break?
Spending time with my daughter- she turns 1 in a month and although I love teaching, I hate being away from her so much. The summertime is our girl time :)
Little Girl's most recent school picture~ gotta love that grin :)
4. Can you think of your favorite teaching moment?
I always love those moments, and they usually happen at this time of the school year, when I can see our class working as one cohesive unit, when the kids feed off of my sense of humor and sarcasm ;) and when we have formed a bond that is more than just teacher-student. I love it!

5. If money wasn't a factor, what one item would you buy for your classroom?
Hmmm.... I would love my own super-nice, super-new laptop. My school-issued one is old and very used, so it's not that fast and doesn't load YouTube videos on the spot, the keys get stuck as I am typing something, and the battery only lasts about 30 minutes when it's unplugged so it has to stay at my desk. Because of that, I have to make a lot of the cool stuff at home and then email it to myself or use Dropbox, which is ok, but not what I find ideal. I would love the chance to use my laptop as a mobile extension of my assessments, conferences, etc., make cool activities and classroom decor with it, and be able to use it for everything I need school-wise (which is a lot!).
lol, what my current laptop feels like ;)

6. Why did you start blogging?
I had been blog-stalking for quite some time thanks to Pinterest and my obsessive need to tweak and update old practices and units in my classroom. One day, I came across a Whole Brain Teaching video and it literally blew my socks off! (You can find it HERE) I tried it with my class that next week and fell in love. It was then that I felt I could share something with the teachers of the world and it just took off from there.
That's me in "teacher heaven" thanks to Whole Brain Teaching & amazing ideas in blogland

7. What is your favorite non-school related thing to do?
Outside of school, I love to get out and about with friends and/or my husband and little girl. We live near the mountains and we love to go hiking with our chocolate lab. Downtown Boulder is a super-cute place, so we love to walk around and enjoy the shops, people watch, and eat... I do love to eat :) I especially love to travel, and we are in the process of trying to figure out how to do that with a little one!

8. What advice would you give to a new teacher in your building?
Collaborate and don't reinvent the wheel! There are so many useful resources to lean on in your life- teammates, mentors, teacher friends- I could not imagine my teaching life without their support and wisdom. Now, take that and add on the online resources and you have saved yourself HOURS of work and stress. I have found some of my best units and strategies on blogs, Pinterest, and YouTube- they are my new favorite professional development programs! Plus, the virtual community is just as supportive (or maybe more so, in some cases!).

9. Do you prefer real books or e-readers like Kindles?
Real books, 100%!! I have tried to get on board the eBook thing, but to be honest, nothing is like the feel of a new book (don't you just love that new-book smell?). Plus, I am someone who writes down and marks up all over a book, so the "virtual sticky note" was not as much fun as the real ones. I think I will always be a real book kinda gal.

10. You know it's been a good day when...
I get home, kiss my little girl on the cheek and hear her giggle- best feeling in the world!

Now, for the second part, I am actually going to be passing this on, along with the Lovely Blog Award I was given the other day. If you have not yet checked out these blogs, do so immediately since they are so awesome they get tagged and awarded all at once :)
